Welcome to FIDAM

The research institute of the Diabetes Acadamy Mergentheim, Forschungsinstitut der Diabetes-Akademie Mergentheim (FIDAM), was founded in 1988. The Diabetes Akademie Mergentheim is a non-profit organization for the promotion of science, research, further education and patient information.  FIDAM and the Diabetes Akademie are an integral part of the  Diabetes Zentrums Mergentheim (DZM), which include various facilities, aside from this institute, that has full in-patient and out-patient treatment of Type-1 and Type-2 diabetes patients.

The prognosis of people with diabetes is largely dependent on to what extent self-management is possible in the sense of personal responsibility when dealing with the disease and the demands of treatment. With its research, FIDAM would like to contribute to an improved treatment, prognosis and quality of life to the people with diabetes. Aside from clinically medical questions, FIDAM  deals principally with the psychological and behavioral aspects of the diabetes disease.

The main focus of the research is achieved not only interdisciplinarily, but also by application orientation. Apart from applied and clinical research, including extensive knowledge from pure investigation, the research gives an important status to the emotional, cognitive and behavioral-related factors of the self-management in relation to the diabetes disease.  The development, evaluation and introduction of innovatively and interdisciplinarily achieved treatments and training concepts take up a large area of the work of the institute.

FIDAM cooperates with many university facilities (i.e. medical clinics and psychology institutes of the University Bamberg, Frankfurt/Main, Würzburg, Giessen, Heidelberg, Regensburg and Greifswald)
